ESC Magnetic Seal

— APPLICATION

Elevator hoistway smoke containment. A transparent curtain unrolls from a headbox above the elevator opening, down the elevator frame or auxiliary rails, sealing the opening within 10 seconds of smoke detection, fire-protection alarm, or loss of power. A magnetic edge seals to the ferritic frame or rail — fewer moving parts than a side-guide system. Occupants inside a deployed elevator raise the curtain with a two-sided membrane switch per IBC 3008.2; it redeploys if smoke is still present. On loss of power, less than 15 lb (66.7 N) at the curtain boundary clears the flexible strips from the frame for egress.
