Why do specifiers still use 1990s-era smoke-only curtains at elevators?

The belief is elevator doors are fire rated so the curtain need not be. But the gap between door and frame admits gases over 1,000°F. Our curtains are rated to 1,800°F.

Yes — draft curtains are built in sections and corner gaps up to 2 inches are allowed.
